Aquia Harbour is the premier gated community of Stafford County, Virginia. We are located approximately 45 miles south of Washington DC, 15 miles north of Fredericksburg and 70 miles north of Richmond. The historic Aquia Creek runs through our community providing a year-round navigable waterway leading to the Potomac River and on to the Chesapeake Bay. Beautiful woodlands surround our homes and give the community the feel of a delightful country setting. “The Harbour”, as we often refer to our community, encompasses over 2,000 acres including 400 acres of protected wetlands. Wildlife abounds; you can watch osprey fish the creek and see deer feeding in the surrounding forest. We are far enough away from the city to see a myriad of stars light the evening skies but close enough to be visiting the sites of Washington, DC in under an hour.

Thursday Noon I just drove all three sections (in a Toyota all-wheel drive) and roads are passable but down hills are very tricky. Downshift rather than brake to slow down, keep speeds low and please make sure your headlights are on and your nonfreezing windshield washer is topped off.

The Snow Removal Team is making one more pass and then will head home to rest and be back early morning to put down another layer of salt/sand mix. The pre-treatment definitely helped last night so will continue to add this to our snow prep list.

We only had one car getting eaten by ditch and that was at Aquia and Anchor Cove during the night last night – no injuries. Richmond Drive will remain closed but John Paul Jones is good to go for now.

Blowing snow and falling temps are going to make driving after dark tonight and early tomorrow morning treacherous so please get where you’re going tonight and leave later tomorrow morning if you can. High winds will result in single digit wind chills through...

Thurs 4:30am.

Fed Gov open w a 2 hour delay. Unscheduled leave and telework.

No word from Stafford County Schools.

Duty officer reporting that snow continues to fall with about 1” - 1.5” so far. Plows have been out all night. Our roads were pretreated but 25 degrees means ice especially in Sec III so if you have to come out take it slow. No accidents being reported in the county.

Wed 4:15p Well it looks like there is at least a chance tonight...

The winter advisory is calling for a dusting to 2" in Stafford between midnight and 7am. We will be activating our pretreatment option tonight but the lower the temps, the less effective it is. The road crew will be ready for the call when it comes and the duty officer will keep them and you posted on road conditions as the information becomes available.

The big story will be the brutal wind chills over the next 48 hours. This is dangerous weather. Please bring in pets and make sure that kids are covered head to toe if they go out.
