    Office Business Office

Staff and I had a great meeting with County Waste today to introduce us to a new contact person and establish expectations and they asked me to pass along a few things:

Christmas pick up - This week's pick up has required full loads and multiple trips so they will probably be going into the evening. Christmas trees can be left out for pick up any Monday in January.

Yard waste - When you can fit yard waste in the container please do so without bagging. That way it can go in the compost heap.

Can Only - In general, the trucks are set up to pick up what has been put inside the trash receptacle. Items left outside the can will generally not be picked up. If you need a second can please call the office.

Special Pick Up - If you are moving and have a lot of items to get rid of or a piece of furniture or mattress you need out of the way, contact County Waste for a special pick up 540-899-7722. County Waste does charge an additional fee for special pick ups.

New Technology - New Ipads will become part of their operations in January. Staff will be able to see exactly what addresses were serviced and when. With this technology we will also be able to withhold trash service from residents who are non-compliant. As long as there is an active payment plan in place you will still have trash service.

I also suggested to them that there is an untapped market in Va for leaf pick up in the fall. Up north you rake your leaves to the curb a big truck comes and sucks them up. The owner said they had recently been discussing the purchase of a leaf sucker (probably not the official description) as an added service. Maybe next fall residents will have this option!

Carry on and Happy New Year!
