1/20/22 Weather Update – Bitter Cold and No Friday Severe Snow Storm

The wintry mix overnight last night did not materialize, and resulted in rain. We may see sporadic snow showers throughout today, but it will not accumulate. Temperatures will continue to drop to teens with single digit wind chills overnight into tomorrow. Temperatures will not make it out of the 20s tomorrow, with wind chills holding in the teens.

Tomorrow night will be even colder, with lows in the single digits and teens. The storm that we have been watching for Friday night into Saturday will largely miss our area, but could potentially bring light snow, but no real threat of accumulation. This storm is anticipated to have a significant impact on Southern parts of Virginia, which is why the Governor declared a State of Emergency today to allow for resources to be pre-deployed to assist those localities. If the forecast changes, and we are expected to receive accumulating snow, we will send another update. Please stay safe and warm over the next couple of days, as the cold will be brutal. Please bring animals inside, like dogs and cats, that are not equipped to be outside in the weather and check on your neighbors to make sure they have a heat source to support them through the next few days. If you know anyone who needs assistance, please let us know and we will work with our volunteers to try to provide assistance.
