Chapter XVI - Women's Club
  • Chapter XVI
    The Women's Club

The Aquia Harbour Women's Club was founded over 30 years ago as a service organization. There are existing minutes from 1975 which refer back to a meeting in 1974. The 1975 minutes mention Betty Kalus, President; Fran Nissley, Vice President and Pat Fleischman, Secretary/Treasurer.

The Women's Club has provided a friendly social environment for women while at the same time supporting the community through hard work and dedication to making Aquia Harbour a great place to live.

Over the years the Women's Club has maintained the information board at the entry and now divides the board with the AHPOA -- official POA notices in red and social/community announcements in black. They have sponsored several activities annually such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Sharing Wreath for Christmas, Winter Coat Drive for Head Start, support to Hope House, Back to School Supplies campaign, donations to the Pat Esser Children's Fund and the Aquia Harbour Rescue Squad. In addition, they have more recently done an Adopt a Classroom project, taken responsibility for the Tree Lighting at the Information Center, Red Cross Blood Drive, Scholarship for a Brooke Point High School female (now at $750 with a goal to raising it to $1000). They have published several cookbooks and every two years the Aquia Harbour Telephone Directory.

They also provide a " Welcome Newcomer" package with important telephone numbers, County Directory, coupons from local vendors and sample items to make the move easier.
The Aquia Harbour Women's Club has been dedicated to making newcomers to the community feel welcome as well as providing fruitful opportunity for outreach inside as well as the area around us.
